太多的來不及

好友的母親出門倒垃圾,一輛急駛摩托車猛然撞擊,就此倒地不起。

這位伯母原本有心臟宿疾,家裡隨時準備著氧氣筒。

然而萬萬沒有料到,她是用這種方式離開。子女完全不能接受,

哭著說:「媽媽一句交代都沒就走了!」他們以為,

媽媽即使心臟病發作,也總還有時間跟他們說說話,交代幾句,

怎麼可以一聲不響就走呢?其實,他們忘了,媽媽每天都在交代。

就跟天下的母親一樣,無非是「注意身體,小心著涼」、

「不要太累,少熬夜,少喝酒」、「好好念書,別整天貪玩」......

只不過我們聽得太多,聽得我們煩膩、麻木。直到母親閉口的那刻,

我們才發現,還有很多話來不及聽、來不及問、來不及跟媽媽說。

一位母親,因為女兒愛上一個她不喜歡的男人,母女僵持不下,大吵一架後,

女兒乾脆離家。母親又氣又傷心,女兒自小失怙,是她母兼父職辛苦養大。

好不容易出落得亭亭玉立,水仙花兒似的,誰知大學尚未畢業,就急著想嫁,

偏又是位大她好多歲的離婚男人。母親好言相勸,惡言恫嚇,女兒不動如山。

所有的愛變成恨。她恨女兒絕情,為愛盲目。許多前塵往事一一湧上頭。

女兒小時乖巧可愛,老愛膩在她身邊嘰嘰咕咕像小雞啄米似的講悄悄話。

童言童語,煞是有趣。「媽媽,您絕不能先老,一定要等我長大了一起老!」

上中學的女兒也依然貼心懂事,母女倆像朋友一般分享彼此的心事。

偶爾問起女兒擇偶的條件,女兒總撒嬌地說:「我才不嫁,我要陪媽媽一輩子,

陪到您老得走不動,我就幫您推輪椅!」這些話言猶在耳,女兒怎麼全忘了呢?

為了一個不相干的男人,罔顧二年母女情份,實在叫她難以承受。

那天,女兒打電話回來說:「媽媽,我要結婚了,希望您來參加婚禮,

給我一點祝福!」她餘怒未消,憤而掛上電話。這一掛就是生死永隔。

女兒女婿在蜜月途中車禍喪生。殯儀館內,她抱著女兒的遺體放聲大哭:

「我好自私啊!我連最後的祝福都不肯給妳!」

病床前的老先生一遍遍呼喚著:「老伴?,妳醒醒啊!

醒來我們就一起環遊世界,妳不是一直想去嗎?」

老伴張著茫然無神的眼睛,沒有知覺,沒有反應。老先生深深嘆了口氣。

老夫妻倆結褵四十年。初識時,老伴原有出國念書的計畫,

為愛他而留了下來。他為了彌補心中那份歉疚,許諾說:

「有一天,我會陪妳環遊世界!」只是,隨著孩子一個個出生,

經濟的壓力逼使他們不得不縮衣節食,

環遊世界成了一個遙不可及的夢想。他總是安慰妻子說:

「等孩子再長大一點,等家裡再寬裕一點......。」孩子終於長大,

各有自己的家庭。他們也有足夠的錢可以實現當年的夢想,

可是男人的事業正在高峰,別說出國旅遊,平日連兩人相處的時間都有限。

面對老伴無言的怨嘆,他也總是抱歉地說:「等我退了休,

我所有的時間都是妳的,妳要怎麼玩就怎麼玩!」

及至等到他退休,老伴卻等不及了。一場腦中風,造成深度昏迷,

日夜陷在無夢也無欲的世界裡。只留下老先生守在床邊,不斷重複地說:

「老伴,妳要趕快醒來啊!我帶妳去巴黎看鐵塔,去荷蘭看風車,去羅馬......」

我不知道老兵的真實姓名,只知道他的小名叫芽子。

芽子的故事是另一個老兵告訴我的。芽子早產,出生時?

小到跟貓似的。因為體弱,他娘就多疼了些。吃奶吃到六足歲,

還是黃皮寡瘦。娘總摸著他的光頭說:「小芽子呀!你要快點抽條長個,

長得跟場子前的大棗樹一樣高!」芽子十四歲時,時局變動,

戰火已經快燒到他們家門口。他娘急得如熱鍋上的螞蟻,四處託人,

總算給他在部隊裡補個小勤務兵的名字,好讓他隨著部隊一起到台灣。

芽子捨不得娘。娘說:「傻芽子,咱們家總要留條根哪!」臨走那天,

芽子不要他娘送,可是他娘還是忍不住到碼頭,

看到雜在隊伍中矮人一頭的芽子,急急跑過來,伸手就想抱他。

芽子一驚,穿上軍裝,就是革命軍人,男子漢大丈夫,大庭廣眾之間,

怎能像娘兒們一樣摟摟抱抱,再加上袍澤們一旁似笑非笑的看他,

更加煩躁。推開母親,不耐地說:「回去啦!叫您別來,還來!」

說完,頭也不回跑了。這一跑就是四十五年,再回去家已經沒了。

娘在他走後第三年過世,唯一的妹妹文革中不知下放到哪裡,

一個家連根斬斷。小芽子成了老芽子,仍是孤寡一人,住在榮家。

有一年,榮家的老夥伴們買個蛋糕為他慶生,慫恿著他許願。

望著閃爍不停的燭花,忽然間眼淚簌簌的流了一臉,

他哽咽地說:「我想我娘,我想我娘抱抱我．．．．．．」

這一說,四周的老兵唏唏嗦嗦哭成一片。

來不及的愛,來不及表達的歉意,來不及挽回的錯誤,

來不及實現的諾言,來不及送出的祝福,來不及離別前最後的擁抱....。

我們總有太多的來不及。

我們總以為時間會等我們,容許我們從頭再來,彌補缺憾。

豈不知「撒旦如吼叫的獅子,遍地遊行,尋找可吞噬的人」。

災難永遠在我們猝不及防的時候當頭砸下,你無從躲避,無能怯懼,

心膽俱碎,招架無力。我們唯一能做的,只不過在還來得及的時候,

小心呵護手中的珍寶,一刻也不要放鬆。無論如何,

向你最親愛的爸媽、親人、愛人、手足、朋友們表達你及時的愛吧～。
